How to Select Items to Sell

Yes—it‘s true. There‘s a market for just about everything on eBay. However, successful online sellers—specifically those who want to make a significant income selling items for others—don‘t sell just anything. In fact, they‘re very selective about what they sell. Successful online sellers know how to identify the most profitable items to sell using offline and online research techniques.

Search eBay Using ValueFinder

To estimate the final sales value of an item and determine your pricing strategy, you can use the ValueFinder in the How to Sell section of www.foundvalue.com. The ValueFinder accesses eBay‘s search engine and allows you to display similar items that have been sold on eBay in the past 15 days. Chances are that an item comparable to the one you want to sell has been listed on eBay in this time period. You can use this information to estimate what market price you can expect for the item you want to sell.

At times, you can get an overwhelming number of search results when using the ValueFinder (eBay is a popular place to shop, after all!). If that is the case, then you need to refine your search. For instance, a search for the ―Motorola Phone‖ may result in thousands of sold items in the past 15 days. Clearly, that is too many items to look through and many of them will not be relevant to our search.

To refine your search, add appropriate details. Even something as simple as adding the model number, like ―Motorola SLVR L7 Quadband Cellular Phone‖ can significantly reduce and refine your search results.

Search Tips
  • Search isn’t case-sensitive.
  • For example: It doesn’t matter whether you enter “canon” or “Canon”.
  • Use specific keywords including brand, date, or color.
  • For example: “canon powershot A70 digital camera”.
  • Don’t use conjunctions (or, and) or articles (a, an, the) in your search unless it is part of the title.
For example: don’t use “a digital camera” because the “a” is not part of the actual name but “the matrix” is okay if you are looking for that movie because “the” is part of the movie title.
